After countless hours of research and reading many excellent reviews, you’ve finally decided. You’ve picked your perfect pump! At Pumps for Mom, we offer numerous breast pumps through insurance that are sure to knock your socks off. But if you’re reading this blog, chances are you’ve just gotten (or are considering) a brand new Ardo breast pump — great choice!

One of our favorite pumps is the Ardo Calypso Essentials, so we’re so glad you’ve decided to give this incredible Ardo breast pump a go. From quiet expression to impressive vacuum seal technology, there’s a lot to love about this pump. But before you can rave about your amazing pump, you must learn how to use it. Here is our guide to using your Ardo Calypso Essentials pump.

Get Your Kit Ready

Before getting started, make sure you have everything you need. Your Ardo Calypso Essentials kit includes all the essentials to set you up for pumping success. Here’s what your kit should include:

  • A Calypso double-electric pump
  • (2) 26mm breast shells
  • (2) 5 oz. bottles
  • (2) Spare lip valves
  • (2) Bottle stands
  • (1) Power Adapter
  • Instruction manual

Get Comfy

Getting in the right headspace will help you pump more efficiently. Find a comfortable position where you can relax. We also recommend preparing to pump by looking at a picture of your baby, smelling an item of your baby’s clothing, or keeping your child nearby.

Because the Ardo Calypso Breast pump is electric, you have complete control of your hands while you pump. Relaxation can extend even while pumping since you can use your hands to be on your phone, read a book, or do anything else to give you some well-deserved me-time.

Pumping With the Ardo Calypso Essentials

Now that you’re relaxed and have everything you need, it’s time to pump! With our guide, you’ll be pumping like a pro in no time.

Remember to wash your hands with warm water and soap before handling your pump!

Attach Pumpset to the Motor

You’ll only get so far without the proper parts. Attach the tube connector to the pump motor to ensure both pumps work correctly.

Ensure Proper Placement

Proper placement ensures that pumping is a smooth, painless process. Your nipples should sit at the center of the breast shells to create an air seal. Once the pump is on, your nipples should move freely in the breast shell.

Turn On Pump

Time to pump! Turn on the pump by pressing the standby switch on the pump motor. The green LED display lights up once it’s turned on.

Adjust Settings

With the Ardo Calypso Essentials, you can customize your pumping session to your preferences. Choose the most comfortable setting for your needs by using the arrow keys on the pump motor. According to the instruction manual, moms should try methods that simulate a baby’s natural suckling pattern.

Babies suckle with rapid sucking motions and low suction strength, causing your body to enact a milk ejection reflex. This effect can be replicated by starting with a higher cycle level and selecting a weaker vacuum. Once the milk begins to release, reduce the cycles by pressing the down arrow and strengthen the vacuum by pressing the up arrow until you find the most comfortable level for you.
